What is a break point in tennis?
Break points arise at love–40, 15–40, 30–40 and advantage receiver. Because servers usually hold, a break is the swing most sets turn on.
Break points are high-leverage: winning one changes the chance of winning the set far more than an ordinary point. That's why statistics track break points saved and converted.
In a match
30–40 on the server's side: break point. The server saves it with an ace, back to deuce.
